Grand Cayman has long enjoyed a well-heeled reputation—a British Overseas Territory where the water runs an implausible shade of turquoise, the beaches are meticulously maintained, and the atmosphere feels more polished than the average Caribbean island. The Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa sits squarely at its epicenter occupying a quieter stretch of the celebrated Seven Mile Beach and slightly removed from the denser cluster of properties to the south.
While some people prefer to avoid high-rise beach resorts, for those who don’t, the Seafire is tough to beat.
The Seafire has earned Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status—two years running as of 2024—a distinction that places it in rarefied company and separates it from the broader IHG portfolio in meaningful ways.

Peak season at the Seafire runs December through April, when snowbirds and school holiday travelers converge on the island and rates climb accordingly. Summer pricing softens considerably, making it one of the more compelling shoulder-season plays in the Caribbean, even though hurricane season warrants a weather eye.

pools and beach

The beach situation here is legitimately excellent, and I want to be precise about why. The Seafire’s stretch of Seven Mile Beach is wider and more intact than what you’ll find at several competing properties further south—a meaningful distinction for families to spread out. The hotel ropes off an area of ocean for guests, which adds a layer of calm when the beach sees more foot traffic.

There are two pools: the main Seafire Pool is the family-friendly hub, a generous, palm-fringed oasis with an all-day pool bar serving ceviche, salads, and handcrafted cocktails.
The second pool is reserved for Seafire Residences, so for most guests, it’s a single-pool situation—worth noting if you’re comparing to larger resorts like the Ritz-Carlton down the road, which offers a more aquatic spread. Some villas of the property have their own pools, too.

Cabanas are available for daily rental, and I’d argue they’re nearly essential—not just for the comfort (plush pillows, fresh fruit platters, a dedicated cooler), but because on days when cruise ships dock in George Town, the public beaches adjacent to the property can become more congested. The hotel will provide you with the week’s cruise ship schedule at check-in, which is the kind of practical transparency I genuinely appreciate. Book a cabana in advance.

resort activities
The Seafire’s activity programming is driven largely by Red Sail Sports, the on-site water sports partner, and the breadth of what’s covered under the resort fee is generous. Kayaks, paddleboards, pedalboards, snorkel equipment, and a GoPro camera for underwater use are all included—though bring your own memory card, or you’ll be purchasing one on the spot. For anything more ambitious—scuba diving, banana boat rides, speed boating, sailing excursions—Red Sail operates paid programming, with the particular convenience of a dive boat that picks up guests directly from the hotel beach.

Beyond water sports, the resort’s programming leans into its boutique sensibility in ways I find genuinely appealing. Kimpton’s signature evening social hour—complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres—is more substantial here than at their city properties; on good nights it borders on a light dinner. There’s also a “Library By the Sea” cocktail bar that has developed something of a cult following among returning guests, and a live music series called Kimpton Off the Record that operates on the beach or indoors depending on weather. Paddleboard yoga, lawn yoga, and cruiser bike rentals round out the wellness-adjacent options.
room selection
With 264 rooms and suites across floors two through ten—virtually all with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows—the room inventory is smaller than it sounds, and the building was deliberately angled to maximize ocean sightlines. For families, the specific room types to know about are as follows.

The Ocean View Family Suite is the workhorse option: it offers living room bunk beds for kids, a sleeper sofa, two to three full bathrooms, and the ability to connect to an adjacent two-queen room to create a two-bedroom configuration. These connecting suite combinations are the most practical solution for families traveling with school-age children who want both shared space and sleeping separation.
The One-Bedroom Ocean View Suite (roughly 900–1,100 square feet) includes a full kitchen, dining room table, soaking tub, and separate half bath—a strong choice for families who want the flexibility of self-catering, particularly with toddlers or picky eaters.

For extended families or groups, the Bungalows are in a category of their own. These recently renovated, free-standing beachfront structures include full kitchens and private plunge pools, and they’re the closest the resort comes to a villa experience. Availability is limited and they book out quickly during peak season—so please reach out to us well in advance.
If you book your hotel through Luxe Recess, you will receive complimentary VIP perks like resort credits, a welcome amenity, daily breakfast for two per bedroom, and you will be placed in the highest priority category for upgrades. Learn about these perks.
kids club

Camp Seafire is the resort’s dedicated kids-only zone. Operating for children ages 5–12, the camp runs daily programming from 9am to 5pm with themed days, arts and crafts, nature walks, water activities, and beach and pool time.
Camp Seafire sells out during summer months and school breaks, and the hotel requires a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for daytime bookings and 48 hours for evening babysitting. Hourly, half-day, and full-day rates are available, ranging from approximately $45 per hour to $140 for a full day per child. Children must be potty-trained and bathroom-independent to participate.

spa
The Spa at Seafire occupies 8,500 square feet and offers seven treatment rooms with a menu spanning massage therapy, body treatments, facials, manicures, and pedicures. The standout architectural feature is the hammam—a Turkish-style steam treatment room that is reportedly the only one of its kind on Grand Cayman—along with a signature grand soaking tub set in its own airy, light-filled enclave with botanical accents. The design manages to feel genuinely immersive rather than generic, which isn’t always the case at resort spas of this scale.

For families with tweens, the spa offers select treatments appropriate for younger guests—ask specifically when booking, as programming evolves seasonally and can include facials and manicures for the 12-and-up set. It’s not a comprehensive teen program, but the option exists and is worth inquiring about when you’re coordinating the week’s schedule. On a busy beach day, booking spa time for older kids while parents have their own treatments is glorious.

dining
Four dining venues cover the full spectrum of need at the Seafire, and the food is consistently cited as one of the property’s genuine strengths.

AVE is the flagship, a Mediterranean-focused restaurant with panoramic ocean views and a menu built around fresh local seafood and quality proteins. Reservations are required and fill quickly during peak season; book before you arrive. Avecita is the more theatrical option—a ten-seat Spanish tapas experience designed around a chef’s table format that delivers something genuinely distinctive in the Grand Cayman dining landscape. Coccoloba is the beachside Mexican spot, and guests love its casual, well-positioned location right on the sand. The Pantry handles grab-and-go needs with coffee, smoothies, and fresh bites. Breakfast at AVE (no reservation required) is excellent, and the brunch on weekends draws locals as well as hotel guests. Children five and under eat complimentary at any of the restaurants when dining with parents.

local activities

Grand Cayman is a compact island—22 miles long—which makes amazing excursions accessible without significant friction. Stingray City, the famous sandbar in the North Sound where you can wade among southern stingrays, is the quintessential Grand Cayman experience and genuinely earns its reputation. Hire a boat to take you on a private tour first thing in the morning and you can avoid the group excursions from the cruise ships.

Camana Bay is the upscale open-air shopping and dining district about 2.5 miles away; Starfish Point on the North Sound is quieter, more intimate, and produces the kind of photographs families frame—wade in shallow water surrounded by cushion sea stars in their natural habitat.
The Cayman Turtle Centre at Boatswain’s Beach, roughly 15 minutes away, is a great family option: you can hold baby turtles and learn about the island’s conservation efforts. Cabs are metered but not inexpensive—$20 for a short trip is standard—so families doing multiple off-property excursions in a day may want to consider a car rental for the duration.
final thoughts

The Kimpton Seafire doesn’t ask you to choose between a chic, design-forward atmosphere and a kid-friendliness that your family needs. The “luxury without the attitude” ethos that Kimpton talks about delivers here, and the Forbes Five-Star designation is not decorative.
The honest caveats are worth naming. The single main pool and the proximity to cruise ship beach traffic are structural realities, not incidental annoyances—but both are manageable with advance planning (cabanas help enormously). The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman offers more expansive facilities with a larger property footprint, while Palm Heights offers a niche boutique option best for when the kids stay home.
That said, for families who do not mind a high rise resort, a beach that genuinely delivers, a dining program worth staying in for, and a service culture that makes it feel personal rather than institutional—the Seafire is the answer on Grand Cayman.
My clients receive amenities that simply aren’t available booking on your own—think daily breakfast for two, a property credit, room upgrade priority, and early check-in and late check-out when available. At a hotel where the bungalows and family suite configurations book out months in advance, having an advisor advocating for your reservation and managing the logistics isn’t a luxury—it’s the difference between a good trip and a flawless one.
