Opened in 1896, The Breakers (read our full review) is considered the standard to which all other Palm Beach hotels aspire. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Breakers combines the best of old-school luxury with the modern amenities of a five-diamond resort. The 140-acre oceanfront property boasts two golf courses, a private beach, tennis courts and a jaw-dropping spa complex (read our full review).

The spa complex at the Breakers is heavenly.

While public spaces and the grand hall have gilded furnishings and crystal chandeliers, hotel rooms are more understated with traditional furnishings and pastel hues. As a historic landmark, rooms at The Breakers are modest in size except in the new wings.

Luxe Recess clients and readers book suites with adjoining rooms for the most space for families. The Breakers’ biggest draw for families includes an outstanding kids club (which hasn’t restarted), playground, and a children’s gift shop with great resort wear. Family-friendly options at more than ten on site restaurants make meals easy.

The Eau’s oceanfront pools have brand new family cabanas.

With its beachy blue hues, airy lobby and vast views of the Atlantic, the Eau Palm Beach (read our full review) feels like a more playful version of The Breakers, its more formal neighbor to the north. With modern hotel interiors designed by Jonathan Adler, the massive hotel and resort has two pools, a swanky and newly refurbished kids and teen club, a large private beach, and multiple bars and restaurants.

Oversized suites with adjoining rooms are perfect for families. Those with private balconies feature hanging chairs to sway with ocean breezes.

Dining at the resort includes a new lobby sushi bar and restaurant. We love the family-friendly Mediterranean-inspired menu by the pools facing the ocean.

The Eau Palm Beach is operating and includes a newly renovated teen lounge, too.

Eau Palm Beach’s full-service spa is a destination unto itself. 42,000-square-feet of treatment rooms, relaxation areas and outdoor private gardens will bring Zen to any stressed-out Mom or Dad. Located in Manalapan, nine miles south of Worth Avenue, Eau Palm Beach is a bit removed from the action. But it offers unrivaled privacy for those seeking sun without the crowds.

The Colony Hotel
(Set to reopen in 2024)

The Shoppers Paradise

Oozing British colonial charm from its pale pink exterior, The Colony Hotel has personified classic Palm Beach style since 1947. Decorated by famed designer Carlton Varney (known for The Greenbrier), The Colony’s chic decor, cheerful hues, banana leaf motifs, and rattan furnishings will make you feel as though you’ve stepped back to another era, when Mai Tais and caftans were de rigueur.

The Colony is not oceanfront. Its location—just a five-minute walk from the shops and restaurants from Worth Avenue–can’t be beat. The hotel offers beach access with chairs and umbrellas for the public beach via the fabulous pink golf cart. The hotel’s charming pool, shaped like the state of Florida, is a peaceful retreat after a day spent shopping.

Swifty’s, the hotel’s restaurant, serves classic fare poolside. The Colony bar’s trivia nights and live music consistently draw local crowds.

The hotel’s retro glam and sophisticated vibe is best suited for girlfriend getaways and mother-daughter trips to post on Instagram. The Colony has a limited number of suites and villas suitable for families.

Other boutique hotels near Worth Avenue we love include the Chesterfield Palm Beach.

Marriott Singer Island

The Spacious Sanctuary

Singer Island, considered part of the Palm Beaches, lacks the walkability of downtown Palm Beach. The area boasts pristine beaches and a quiet, family-friendly feel. The Marriott Singer Island (read our full review) is a four-star beachfront hotel with two pools, spa and two restaurants.

Repeat guests love the spacious condo-style accommodations of the resort. The two-bedroom includes a king, two doubles, and a sleeper sofa. All rooms include a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, and dining area, and living room. The hotel’s complimentary umbrellas and beach chairs, game areas, and fire pits with loungers provide an incredible value.

The outdoor pool features a waterslide and grotto. The resort hosts bonfires, swim-up movies and game nights, making it the choice for families who want a laid-back vacation.

The Boca Raton

The Big One

The Boca Raton is a massive, 500-acre resort and members-only club. Built by Addison Mizner (architect of The Cloister at Sea Island) in the 1920s, it combines country club elegance with modern amenities, but its size may be too much for those who don’t love mega-resorts.

The Boca Raton Resort
The Boca Raton Resort is no longer a Waldorf Astoria property and new owners plan to luxe it up.

Fresh off a 200-million-dollar renovation, The Boca Raton has five lodging options in one resort. The recently renovated Beach Club suites are a favorite of families. The Tower suites offer the most flexibility for suites and up to three connecting rooms. Families can book classic hotel rooms at the renovated original Cloister or extended stays at The Bungalows.

And now there’s an adult-only accommodation at the exclusive Yacht Club building.

Boca Raton Spa
This massive resort includes an incredible spa and several styles of accommodations, including an adult-only section.

The recently redesigned Spa Palmera with designer Colin Cowie, is 50,000-square-feet. This Alhambra-inspired spa includes a Himalayan salt room, 44 treatment rooms and a tranquility pool.

With multiple pools, kids camps, a surf school and a FlowRider surf simulator machine, this resort is packed full of activities. But it’s the renowned sports academies that continually attract active families. The Kellie Stenzel Golf Academy offers extensive camps and clinics for kids and adults. The resort’s thirty tennis courts and year-round clinics make The Boca Raton one of the top-rated tennis resorts.

When we book your stay at the Boca Raton, our rates include daily breakfast for two adults per room, a resort credit, and an upgrade based on availability.
